MIE vs SW (28th Match) – Highlights

In this article, we will discuss the thrilling 28th match of the ILT20 2025 was played between MIE and SW in Abu Dhabi on February 02. The match proved to be an intense encounter, with Sharjah Warriorz emerging victorious with a remarkable eight-wicket win against MI Emirates. MI Emirates scored a defendable total of 173/5, courtesy of some explosive batting at the top-order. Sharjah Warriorz however proved too good a team in the run chase, knocking off the target in 17.2 overs with eight wickets remaining.

MIE got off to a steady start after opting to bat, as openers Andre Fletcher and Muhammad Waseem hit some early boundaries. Tim Southee’s brilliant work in the field led to the run-out of Fletcher (11 off 15) to bring an end to the opening stand of 44 in the 5th over. The next ball saw Waseem (21 off 18) go, caught behind off Southee’s bowling, leaving MI Emirates at 44/2.

Kusal Perera and Tom Banton then seized the initiative, adding a vital partnership. Perera struck a brisk innings of 31 from 23 balls, which had included a six and a four, before succumbed to Dilshan Madushanka in the 14th over. Banton played a sensational innings and anchored the middle order with his aggressive yet measured knocks. The English batter used all his shots, hitting six fours and five sixes, and kept up a stunning strike-rate of 164.70.

MI Emirates’ captain Nicholas Pooran (8 off 9) had a struggling start before falling to Adam Milne. Romario Shepherd (2 off 3) was run out in the last over but Banton’s attacking approach ensured MI Emirates ended with a par score of 173/5 in 20 overs. Extras were important contributing 15 runs in total, while Bevon Jacobs’ (1* off 1) late tie-up ensured there are no collapses.

Tim Southee was the only bright spot with the ball for SW as he gave away only 22 runs in his four overs and took the important wicket of Waseem. Milne (1/40) and Madushanka (1/33) claimed breakthroughs, and the two spinners Adam Zampa and Ashton Agar controlled the middle overs without taking a wicket. Chasing 174, Sharjah Warriorz required a flier and their batters provided in scintillating style.

Johnson Charles (14 off 12) threw the bat at a couple of balls, but fell to Fazalhaq Farooqi in the fourth- over. Jason Roy walked in next and he and Tom Kohler-Cadmore hit couple of boundaries off MI Emirates’ bowlers to raise the run rate. Roy belted a couple of sixes in his brisk 22 off 15 before an unlucky run-out curtailed his innings at 74/2 in the 9th over.

Here it made no difference that Sharjah Warriorz never took their foot off the acceleration pedal due to the breathtaking innings of Kohler-Cadmore. The English batter was in sublime form, as he slammed MI Emirates’ bowling attack around the ground, scoring an unbeaten 91 off Miracle 52 balls at the crease, with seven boundaries and five huge sixes.

He was impeccable on his timing and stroke play, regularly finding gaps with expert punishment of loose deliveries. Fazalhaq Farooqi (1/22 in 3 overs) was the only shining light with the ball as he had Charles out early in the innings. MI Emirates, had they taken wickets in the middle overs, could have won the match, but Kohler-Cadmore and Wade chased the target down at 16 balls to spare.
