CSK vs PBKS (49th Match) – Highlights
In a remarkable match held at MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai; the Punjab Kings produced an exciting last-over chase to win by 4 wickets against the Chennai Super Kings in Match 49 of IPL 2025. Punjab Kings chased down a target of 191 largely due to a brilliant 72 runs off 41 balls from Captain Shreyas Iyer, who was given Player of the Match for his crucial innings. Punjab chased down the runs with 2 balls to spare, as they keep their playoff hope’s alive.
Chennai Super Kings batted first and scored a respectable 190 in 19.2 overs. Their innings was largely based on a blistering knock from Sam Curran, who made 88 runs off 47 balls, hitting 9 fours and 4 sixes. Although they lost both openers cheaply, Shaik Rasheed and Ayush Mhatre, Curran was now in control and was batting with positive intent. Dewald Brevis also contributed to the CSK innings with his 32 runs, while MS Dhoni added the final flourish with 11 off 4 balls. The CSK innings ended in dramatic fashion as they lost 4 wickets in 4 balls during overs 18.4 to 19.2 which lost all their momentum towards the end and limited them a few runs shy of the 200 mark.
Yuzvendra Chahal made sure that Punjab’s bowling attack was led by him. After grabbing 4 important wickets for 32 runs in his 3 over, he broke CSK’s middle & lower order. Both Arshdeep Singh and Marco Jansen did their part with the ball as well with their 2 wickets. Which really helped to stem Chennai’s momentum in the death overs.
The Punjab Kings began their chase explosively, as Priyansh Arya and Prabhsimran Singh put on a blazing 44 run first wicket partnership for the innings. Arya was the first wicket to go, scoring 23 runs off 19 balls, including 5 boundaries, before being trapped LBW by Khaleel Ahmed.
Once Arya fell, Prabhsimran Singh continued on with his innings scoring 54 runs from 36 balls, with 5 fours and 3 sixes, until Shreyas Iyer came along to really ramp up the innings. Iyer’s power hitting stroke making and timing truly ramped up the innings, before Shashank Singh finished off his quick innings of 23 runs off just 12 balls, which brought PBKS almost to their target.
Despite a few hiccups in the final overs, including the wickets of Iyer and Suryansh Shedge in quick succession, Josh Inglis and Marco Jansen held their nerve to guide Punjab home with two balls remaining. Khaleel Ahmed and Matheesha Pathirana were the pick of the bowlers for CSK, picking up 2 wickets each, but it wasn’t enough to defend the total.
With this win, Punjab Kings continue to show their grit and depth in the tournament, while Chennai Super Kings will rue their late-innings collapse and inconsistent bowling in the middle overs.
