ZIM vs AFG 2025 Rahmanullah Gurbaz becomes third Afghanistan batter to get past 2000 T20I runs

Rahmanullah Gurbaz became the third batter from Afghanistan to surpass the 2000-run mark in T20Is. He attained this milestone on Sunday, November 2 in his Player of the Match 92 off 48 in the third T20I of the series against Zimbabwe.

His attacking knock at the Harare Sports Club comprised eight fours and five sixes as Afghanistan posted 210/3 on the board and eventually went onto clinch the high-scoring contest by nine runs to whitewash their opponents after getting crushed in the one-off Test played prior to the 20-over series.

Afghan batters to score 2000-plus in T20Is:

Player Matches Innings Strike Rate Runs
Mohammad Nabi 167 155 136.48 2862
Mohammad Shahzad 95 95 129.15 2605
Rahmanullah Gurbaz 80 80 134.83 2067*

The wicketkeeper-batter could have scored a potential second T20I ton. However, he was dismissed eight runs short courtesy of a blinder by the Zimbabwean captain Sikandar Raza while running from the 30-yard circle towards the fence. He was also the first wicket to fall for Afghanistan. The score was 159 in the 16th over at the fall of the wicket.

Coming to the match, skipper Ibrahim Zadran registered 60 off 49 while Sediqullah Atal remained not-out on 35 off just 15 balls. Raza was the most economical bowler from the lot, conceding only 20 runs in his four-over quota while Brad Evans was impressive too, picking up two wickets for only 33 runs in his four overs.

Raza turned out to be the highest run-getter for his side, amassing 51 off 29. Ryan Burl’s 37-run cameo entailed five sixes while Brian Bennett registered 47 off 31 at the top of the order. However, Zimbabwe failed to prevent a clean sweep. Fazalhaq Farooqi and Fareed Ahmad picked up a couple of wickets apiece while Abdollah Ahmadzai, playing his sixth T20I, ended up with three wickets.
