Yashasvi Jaiswal makes U-turn, chooses Mumbai over Goa captaincy

Yashasvi Jaiswal makes U-turn, chooses Mumbai over Goa captaincy

Barely a month after India’s explosive batter Yashasvi Jaiswal requested a No Objection Certificate (NOC) to switch his domestic cricket representation from Mumbai to Goa, he has now made a U-turn on his decision. Notably, Jaiswal wrote an email to the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA), requesting the withdrawal of the NOC.

Moreover, he also mentioned his availability to play for Mumbai in the upcoming domestic season. For those unaware, last month, Jaiswal expressed his wish to leave Mumbai and instead represent Goa. This move took the MCA by surprise. As for the reason, the southpaw stated that he considered the move due to personal reasons.

“I, the undersigned, would request your good self to consider my request to withdraw my NOC given to me as I had some family plans to shift to Goa, which for now have been curtailed. So, I sincerely request MCA to allow me to play for Mumbai this season. I have not submitted the NOC to BCCI nor to the Goa Cricket Association,” Jaiswal wrote, as per The Indian Express.

Meanwhile, speaking of Jaiswal’s move, had he gone ahead with his plans to join Goa, he would have played alongside the likes of Arjun Tendulkar and Siddesh Lad, who have represented the vibrant state in the Ranji Trophy. As of now, it has been revealed that the MCA is yet to take any action or respond to Jaiswal regarding the matter.

Jaiswal sticks with Mumbai after Goa captaincy consideration

The 23-year-old made a stellar start to his Test career for Team India, and during the tour of Australia, he smashed a scintillating century along with two fifties. Yashasvi Jaiswal revealed that he was offered a captaincy role by the state of Goa. As a result, he considered making the surprising switch.

“Goa has thrown me a new opportunity and has offered me a leadership role. My first goal will be to do well for India, and whenever I’m not on national duty, I will be playing for Goa and try to take them deep into the tournament. This was an important opportunity that came my way, and I just took it,” Jaiswal stated.
