Defending champions Australia are set to face South Africa in the World Test Championship (WTC 2025) final at the iconic Lord’s Cricket Ground in London, commencing on Wednesday, 11 June. Fans are waiting with bated breath to watch two determined teams bring their A-game in the quest for achieving red-ball supremacy.
Australia finished second on the WTC points table for the 2023–2025 cycle. They registered 13 wins from 19 games and lost four. Two games ended in draws. The Baggy Greens had a points percentage of 67.54. Meanwhile, South Africa played on two-match tours and won eight out of the 12 Tests they played. They suffered three defeats, and one of their games was drawn. The Proteas had a points percentage of 69.44 and finished at the top of the table.
Australia have had the upper hand against South Africa in the head-to-head scoreline. While Australia have beaten South Africa on 54 occasions, the Rainbow Nation only have 26 wins so far against the Men in Yellow. They have not faced each other since South Africa toured Australia in December 2022. The home side won the three-match series 2–0. However, past achievements won’t count for much when the two teams lock horns at the Home of Cricket this week. The team that wins the most number of sessions will lift the coveted WTC title.
