Delhi Capitals needed to win the last match of the round-robin phase in the Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2026 in order to progress to the Eliminator. A loss for them against the UP Warriorz on Sunday, February 1, would have helped defending champions Mumbai Indians to go through on a better net run rate.
At the BCA Stadium in Vadodara, Jemimah Rodrigues won the toss and invited UP Warriorz to bat first. Chinelle Henry got the Capitals off to a fantastic start as she dismissed UP Warriorz’ captain Meg Lanning off the first ball of the innings.
Deepti Sharma and Charli Knott played conservative cricket before Marizanne Kapp dismissed both of them in consecutive overs. Wickets kept tumbling for the Warriorz as Delhi executed their plans to perfection.
In the 17th over, the Warriorz were in dire straits at 94/8. However, the ninth wicket partnership between Shikha Pandey and Sophie Ecclestone of 28 runs off 19 balls helped the Warriorz finish on 122/8. However, this total was way below par.
In reply, the Capitals lost Lizelle Lee in the second over. However, Shafali Verma and Laura Wolvaardt joined forces to add 73 off 64 balls. The Warriorz fought back towards the back end with a flurry of wickets. From 84/1, Delhi slipped to 101/5. However, skipper Jemimah took her team to victory, with Niki Prasad for company. The Capitals won by five wickets with eight balls to spare.
