Ahead of the third season of the Women’s Premier League (WPL 2025), UP Warriorz have named Deepti Sharma as their new captain. She will be seen leading the team in the upcoming season, replacing Australia skipper, Alyssa Healy. It is worth noting that, Healy was ruled out of this edition after she sustained a foot injury during T20 World Cup 2024. A ruptured plantar fascia in her foot forced her to miss even the final of the event against New Zealand.

Speaking of Deepti Sharma, the 27-year-old was bought by UP Warriorz for a whopping INR 2.6 crore at the first-ever WPL auction. In WPL 2024, the all-rounder scored 295 runs across eight games at an average of 98.33 and a strike rate of 136.57. With the ball, she picked 10 wickets at an average of 21.70 bettering her previous season’s total of nine scalps.

Here’s UP Warriorz latest post on ‘X’:

We are very happy with our picks at the Auction: Jon Lewis

At the WPL 2025 auctions, the team shopped three players and splurged 11.6 crore in order to compete with their squad of 18 players. In the 2023 edition, UP reached the Eliminator and was outclassed by Mumbai Indians. In the subsequent season, they finished fourth and could not make it to the playoffs. After the auction, UP coach Jon Lewis showed optimism over the forthcoming opportunity.
