Winning the World Cup in India will be the biggest slap on BCCI: Shahid Afridi

Former Pakistan skipper Shahid Afridi made quite a startling remark as he stated that the Men in Green winning the forthcoming ODI World Cup in India would be a tight slap on the BCCI. It is no secret that the BCCI and the PCB are at odds over the hosting rights of the Asia Cup 2023 after BCCI Secretary Jay Shah outrightly refused to send the Indian contingent to the neighbouring nation.

Creating a domino effect, the PCB too retaliated and told that they will refuse to travel to India for the World Cup if the latter does not tour Pakistan for the Asia Cup. However, former cricketer Afridi stated that the management will need to be smart about it and allow the team to tour India. He further added that traveling to India and lifting the trophy on their soil would be a ‘tight slap’ on the BCCI.

“I don’t understand why they [PCB] are so adamant and keep saying that we won’t go to India. They need to simplify the situation and understand that an international cricket tournament is happening – take it rather positively; go and play. Tell your boys to get the trophy; the whole nation stands behind you. It’ll not only be a big win for us but a tight slap on the face of BCCI,” Afridi was quoted as saying by Cricket Pakistan.

Give them a clear message by bagging the trophy: Afridi

He further highlighted that the PCB does not have too many options on the plate and instead needs to be positive about touring the neighbouring nation for the ODI World Cup. In addition to this, he added that bagging the trophy would help send a clear message to the arch-rivals.

“Go to India, play decent cricket and claim the win. This is it; we have only this option resorted to ourselves. We are supposed to go there, land back with the World Cup and give them a steer clear message that we can go anywhere and bag the victory,” he added.
