WI vs SL 2026: Sri Lanka confirm four players to miss second Test

Sri Lanka has confirmed that four players are set to miss the second Test against West Indies at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium in North Sound, Antigua, set to commence on Friday, July 3.

The quartet of Pathum Nissanka, Lahiru Kumara, Vishwa Fernando, and Ramesh Mendis are set to miss the clash with either injury or illness.

As reported by Cricbuzz, Nissanka, who featured in the first Test, had been experiencing wrist pain after the culmination of the game. After scans took place, he was advised to undergo surgery and has already flown to the United Kingdom for the procedure. Kumara, who was also part of the squad for the first Test, bowled just one full over before pulling up, clutching his right hamstring. He was taken off the field, and it has been confirmed that Kumara has suffered a grade 1 hamstring tear. 

Fernando had suffered recurrent pain in his lower back, trunk and hip during the warm-up match ahead of the series and was able to bowl just nine overs in that game. He has yet to fully recover despite making considerable progress. Meanwhile, Mendis is set to miss the game after suffering from a bacterial infection.

West Indies go into the second Test with a 1-0 lead, after an innings and 217-run win in the first Test. Being put into bat first, the Lankan Lions scored 308 courtesy of skipper Dhananjaya de Silva’s century. In response, the West Indies put on a mammoth 626 for 9, with a record-breaking 401-run stand between Amir Jangoo and Roston Chase. Sri Lanka were then bowled out for 101, with Kemar Roach picking up 4 for 51, becoming the fifth West Indies seamer to pick up 300 Test wickets.
