What is the probability of Rohit Sharma scoring 50 centuries by ODI World Cup 2027?

With the 2027 ODI World Cup two years from now, conversations around Indian cricket legend Rohit Sharma’s future have gained significant attention. With his retirement from T20Is after leading India to the 2024 T20 World Cup title and his recent Test retirement in May 2025, Sharma’s sole focus is on ODIs. This has made many ask whether he can breach the milestone of 50 ODI centuries in the twilight phase of his career.

The Nagpur-born is considered one of the greatest ODI batters of all time. He currently has 32 ODI centuries, the third-most by an Indian after Virat Kohli (51) and Sachin Tendulkar (49). Notably, his record in ODI World Cups is impressive, with 1575 runs in 28 matches at an average of 60.57. Furthermore, he has hit seven centuries in ODI World Cups, more than any player.

The 38-year-old needs 18 more centuries to hit 50. If he plays all 36 matches and scores a century in exactly 50% of them, he’d just reach the mark. But scoring a century in every other game is virtually impossible at this stage of his career. Mathematically, the actual probability of achieving the feat is 0.0000018826% or 1 in 1.913 billion.

Even though the possibility of Rohit reaching 50 ODI hundreds is low, his contribution to the game makes him one of the best batters in white-ball cricket. Having led India to the 2023 ODI World Cup final, the 2024 T20 World Cup title, and the 2025 Champions Trophy title, Rohit has proved himself as a brilliant leader as well.
