Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) are set to feature in Qualifier 1 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) for the first time since 2016. They finished second on the points table, winning nine matches and losing four out of the 14 they played.
The last time they finished in the top two on the points table, they met Gujarat Lions in Qualifier 1. Virat Kohli-led RCB defeated Gujarat by four wickets, chasing down a 159-run target in 18.2 overs at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. Dwayne Smith top-scored for the Lions, smashing a 41-ball 73. Shane Watson starred with the ball for RCB, bagging a four-for.
In reply, AB de Villiers played a blinder of a knock after RCB lost half their side inside the powerplay with only 29 runs on the board. Stuart Binny gave good company to de Villiers as they forged a 39-run stand. At 68/6 in the 10th over, RCB were staring down the barrel.
Iqbal Abdullah registered his highest IPL score, remaining unbeaten on 33 off 25 balls. However, the bulk of the scoring was done by de Villiers, who amassed an unbeaten 79 off 47 deliveries.
