The league stage of DP World ILT20 2025 has reached the halfway mark as all teams have played at least five matches. Gulf Giants – who are going to play their sixth game on Saturday, January 25 against MI Emirates – are struggling in the competition. They are placed at the bottom of the points table with a solitary win from five matches and a Net Run Rate of -0.540.

Needless to say, the team’s position in the tournament is bothering their captain James Vince who believes that it is high time the team started putting in solid performances and won games to have a chance to qualify for the knockouts. He said that the weekend is crucial for his team as they have two games in two days and need to get it right so that they do not dent their prospects.

“We struggled a bit in the first half of the competition but with the nature of four teams qualifying, our tournament’s not done yet. We need to start getting a few wins on the board. We’ve got two big games in the weekend, Saturday and Sunday, back-to-back games. Looking to get back to winning ways and move our way up the table at the start of the competition.

“Your goal and ambition is to make sure you qualify for the knockout stages which we’ve done. We won the competition first year, qualified for the knockout rounds last year. So we need to start moving and put some wins on the board to make sure we’re in that position again in a couple of weeks’ time,” said Vince.

Golf is a nice relaxing thing to do away from cricket: Vince

Many cricketers love to play golf in their leisure period and Vince is no different. The English batter feels the sport is quite competitive among the players and it allows them to relax.

“Golf is a nice relaxing thing to do away from cricket. It’s still competitive, still active. A lot of the cricketers enjoy coming and playing Golf when they get the opportunity to do so,” Vince added.

Vince has been associated with the Gulf Giants right from the inception of the league. In 28 matches, he has scored 922 runs at an average of 36.88 and a strike rate of 128.77. The 33-year-old has nine half-centuries to his name and a high score of 83*.
