Delhi Capitals put on a fun and memorable off-field show for the players and staff during a special team lunch at the Mlagudi restaurant in Mumbai. They were joined by the legendary musician Shankar Mahadevan.
The DC management inaugurated their legacy numbers on official match caps, with newly elected captain Jemimah Rodrigues receiving the No. 1 cap for being the franchise’s first-ever pick at the inaugural WPL auction.
The highlight of the session was a surprising jam session between the captain and the musician, with the whole DC team dancing and enjoying the Bollywood songs. Rodrigues even grabbed a guitar during the event.

Two straight losses for DC
Despite the upbeat mood off the field, DC have had a rough start to their campaign, suffering two straight defeats, against the Mumbai Indians and Gujarat Giants.
DC opened their season against the Harmanpreet Kaur-led defending champions Mumbai Indians. Batting first, Mumbai posted a strong total of 195/4 in their 20 overs, thanks to impressive knocks from Nat Sciver-Brunt and skipper Harmanpreet Kaur. in reply, Delhi Capitals struggled to keep up with the required run rate and were bowled out for 145 in 19 overs, going down by 50 runs in their tournament opener.
Their second outing of the season proved to be a much closer contest but ended in heartbreak yet again. Facing the Gujarat Giants, DC were set a steep target after the Giants piled up 209 runs batting first. The total was powered by a sensational 42-ball 95 from Sophie Devine, along with a valuable 49 from Ashleigh Gardner.
Chasing 210, Lizelle Lee’s 86 and Laura Wolvaardt’s 77 kept DC firmly in contention until the final overs. However, Devine returned to make the decisive impact with the ball, delivering in the death overs to seal a four-run win for Gujarat.
Despite a strong batting effort, DC finished on 205/5 in 20 overs, falling agonisingly short and remaining winless after two matches in WPL 2026. DC will now take on the UP Warriorz on Wednesday, January 14. They are currently fourth in the points table.
