Virat Kohli was the focal point of Delhi’s practice sessions ahead of their Ranji Trophy fixture against Railways. January 28 was the first time Kohli got involved with the group. In the midst of the session, a young Kabir, the son of one of Kohli’s teammates from age-group cricket, interacted with the Indian batter. The interaction between the two in which Kohli explained the youngster about what one needs to do to become an international cricketer.

Indian cricketer banne ke liye kya karna padega (what does one need to do to become an Indian cricketer)?,” asked a curious Kabir, who had come to wiatch the practice session.

A lot of hardwork humein karni padegi aur aapko practice aur training ke liye bolne ki zaroorat nahi padni chahiye papa ko, haina (it requires a lot of hardwork from one’s side, and dad shouldn’t need to tell you to go for practice),” Kohli said.

“Khudse subah uthke mereko jaana hai practice karne, mereko training karne jaana hai (You yourself should wake up early and say, ‘I have to go for practice’). Aur agar koi ek ghanta practice karta hai toh aap do ghante practice karo (if there’s someone who practices for one hour, then you should be practicing for two hours).

Ek hi tareeka hai bas, theek hai? Koi agar fifty banata hai, aap hundred banao (There’s only one way, right? If there’s someone who’s scored a fifty, you score a hundred). Koi hundred banaata hai, aap 200 banao (if someone scores a hundred, you score a double-hundred). Jo benchmark hai, usse double (whatever’s the benchmark, try achieving twice of it). Toh fir, level up, theek hai (okay then, level up, alright?),” he added.

Kabhi agar bolne ki zaroorat pade, toh that’s not right (it’s won’t be right if someone needs to tell you to practice). You should say, ‘I want  to practice’ ,and we should say ‘no, you can rest one day’, theek hai (alright)? Keep working hard and always enjoy playing,” he concluded.
