Just a day after drawing the curtains on his illustrious Test career, Virat Kohli was seen visiting Vrindavan with wife Anushka Sharma to seek the blessings of spiritual guru Premanand Maharaj. The couple, who are known for their deep spiritual beliefs, reached New Delhi on May 12 following Kohli’s retirement announcement and travelled to Vrindavan on May 13.

The trip to Vrindavan is an emotional moment for Kohli and Anushka. The couple was escorted by disciples upon arrival, who were present there to pay their respects to Maharajji. This isn’t the first time the couple has visited Premanand Maharaj. Earlier this year, after India’s disappointing 1-3 Test series loss to Australia in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, Kohli, Anushka, and their children also visited the ashram.

Virat Kohli will feature in remainder of IPL 2025

Kohli, who debuted in 2011, announced his retirement from the longest format after 123 Tests, scoring 9,230 runs at an average of 46.85, including 30 centuries and 31 fifties. As captain, he led India in 68 Tests, winning 40, making him India’s most successful Test skipper. The decision to retire from Tests, which the 36-year-old revealed via Instagram on May 12, came just ahead of India’s five-match Test series against England starting June 20. Notably, he had been in talks with the BCCI over the last month.

Kohli’s Test retirement comes after a dip in form in the format, particularly during 2020–2022. However, his 2023 performance was impressive, with 671 runs in eight Tests at an average of 55.91. Despite this, the demands of a multi-format schedule and managing workload may have contributed to his decision.

However, the 36-year-old will be seen in action when IPL 2025 resumes on May 17. Representing Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), currently placed second in the points table, Kohli eyes to guide his team to their maiden IPL title.
