Cricket Australia marked the auspicious occasion of Baisakhi by releasing a short clip of Tanveer Sangha wishing the audience the same. The Australian cricketer, who has Indian roots, could be seen conveying his greetings with a radiating smile on his face, wishing the cyber community and highlighting the elements of unity and happiness brought about by the festival.

For the unversed, Baisakhi is a festival which is celebrated by the Sikh community to mark the establishment of the Khalsa in 1699. The Khalsa consists of a group of faithful Sikhs who maintain the principles of faith established by Guru Gobind Singh, believed to be the 10th and last human Sikh guru as per mythology.

As far as Indian Punjabi heritage is concerned, several cricketers have represented Australia over the years. Some of them, apart from Sangha, are his elder brother Jason Sangha, and Gurinder Sandhu. The 23-year-old Tanveer recently represented the Men in Yellow in the 2025 edition of the Champions Trophy. He was brought into the mix in Australia’s semi-final clash against India, which was being played at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium on March 4. His six overs resulted in 41 runs being conceded. Sangha went wicketless as India marked a four-wicket win with 11 deliveries to spare. His most-recent game was while representing New South Wales against Tasmania in the 2024-25 edition of the Sheffield Shield.
