The 29th match between Delhi Capitals (DC) and Mumbai Indians (MI) saw MI post a competitive total of 205 runs, thanks to some masterful stroke play from Tilak Varma.

In the second innings, Tristan Stubbs walked in after the dismissal of DC skipper Axar Patel. He is known for being more comfortable against pace and so the batter’s entry prompted a tactical move from the MI camp. Head coach Mahela Jayawardene and senior batter Rohit Sharma, from the dugout, pointed out for a spin option while Stubbs was at the crease. The decision brought Karn Sharma into the attack for the 14th over, and it paid off.

On the third ball of the over, Karn flighted a delivery full on middle, giving it good air and tempting Stubbs into a big shot. The South African batter went for it, but only managed a top edge as the ball went high into the air. Naman Dhir, stationed at long-on, ran a few meters and took a simple catch. It was a crucial wicket for MI at a key moment in the game.

In the first innings, MI set a strong foundation with Tilak Varma top-scoring with 59 off 33 balls. Contributions also came from Ryan Rickelton, Suryakumar Yadav, and Naman Dhir. For DC, Kuldeep Yadav and Vipraj Nigam picked up two wickets each.

In the chase, Karun Nair provided DC with early momentum, smashing a blistering 89 off just 40 deliveries, including 12 fours and five sixes. However, MI’s spin duo of Mitchell Santner (4-0-43-2) and Karn Sharma (4-0-36-3) kept the DC batting lineup in check, turning the tide in MI’s favour.
