The tension in Ahmedabad reached a peak during the 10th over of the T20 World Cup 2026 final as Arshdeep Singh and Daryl Mitchell were involved in a heated on-field exchange. After earlier smashing two sixes, Mitchell faced a wide full toss outside off from Arshdeep and, in a moment of frustration, toe-ended it toward extra cover. Attempting a retaliatory throw, Arshdeep hit Mitchell on the thigh, leaving the New Zealand batter visibly furious.

Animated gestures and aggressive walking marked Mitchell’s response, but the situation was quickly diffused by Surya, who stepped in with a calming hand on Mitchell’s shoulder, while the umpires discussed with Arshdeep. The two later shook hands, signaling the end of the altercation and moving on with the game.

On the field, India remained firmly on top, racing to 92 in the powerplay with Sanju Samson and Abhishek Sharma leading the charge. New Zealand’s chase of 256 was already in jeopardy, with five wickets down at 88 after 10 overs.
