[WATCH] Roston Chase shares emotional message to late Sir Garfield Sobers after win over Pakistan

West Indies captain Roston Chase dedicated their victory against Pakistan in the first Test to the late Sir Garfield Sobers. Fittingly, the Caribbean outfit won by 90 runs on the day the legendary all-rounder would have turned 90 years old.

Sobers passed away aged 89 in Barbados as not only one of the greatest West Indies cricketers but also the world, having gone on to score 8,032 runs and take 235 wickets from 93 Test matches.

Chase honoured Sobers’ contribution to West Indies cricket and stated that, to date, he remains a role model for the team and hopes they made the late superstar proud of their efforts against Pakistan.

“On behalf of the West Indies senior cricket men’s team, we would like to dedicate this victory to the late, great Sir Garfield Sobers. He’s a legend of the game, a hero of everyone in this dressing room. He’s done everything on the cricket field and is so iconic that he would have been 90 years old today, and we won by 90 runs. So it was destined for him. We had a chat about trying to make him feel special in his grave, and I hope he’s smiling on us right now. So Sir Garfield Sobers, I want to say thank you for everything that you’ve done for West Indies cricket, and we’ve tried to make you proud. We hope you’re happy, and may you continue to rest in peace,” Roston Chase said via West Indies’ social media platform.

West Indies went on to secure a 90-run victory after Pakistan failed to chase down 211 in the fourth innings, thanks to Jayden Seales’ five-wicket haul. It was, however, Justin Greaves who won Player of the Match for his five wickets during the early stages of the game, while Shai Hope’s 92 in the first innings remained the highest individual score for the hosts, only bettered by Shan Masood’s century.
