A moment of brilliance by Tom Kohler-Cadmore brought about the end of Andries Gous’ stay at the crease during Match 5 of the ongoing edition of the Pakistan Super League between Islamabad United vs Peshawar Zalmi at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium on Monday, April 14. It was a true moment of brilliant presence of mind. Gous was run-out while attempting a third run off a misfield.

A short-of-a-length delivery was tickled off the bat down the leg side by Sahibzada Farhan, who immediately set off for a couple of runs. The fielder at short fine leg pursued the ball with the wicketkeeper following him. The fielder, in an attempt to provide a relay throw back to the keeper, wasn’t accurate enough with his throw. This prompted the batters to get started with their third run.

Saim Ayub, who was situated near the stumps, ran towards the original position of short fine leg at the 30-yard circle, collected the ball, and executed the throw. The throw was not a well-directed one. However, Kohler-Cadmore, backing up at the striker’s end, was successful in his attempt of parrying the ball off his left hand to the stumps. Gous did not put in the dive, and was caught just short of the crease.

Earlier in the evening, Islamabad won the toss and opted to bat first. They were coming on the back of an eight-wicket win against Lahore Qalandars in their PSL 2025 opener. Jason Holder was granted the Player of the Match award for his splendid four-wicket haul during the first innings of the game. Colin Munro and Salman Ali Agha wrapped up the run-chase with 14 deliveries to spare.
