[Watch] PSL 2025: Colin Munro accuses Iftikhar Ahmed of chucking, umpires forced to intervene

The recently-concluded Match No. 13 of the 2025 Pakistan Super League (PSL) saw a controversial incident when Islamabad United’s Colin Munro accused Multan Sultans’ Iftikhar Ahmed of chucking the ball during a heated exchange mid-match.

The incident took place on the third delivery of the 10th over, when Iftikhar bowled a quick yorker that Munro managed to dig out. But instead of continuing the play, the New Zealand batter animatedly gestured toward the bowler, signalling that his delivery was suspect. Munro appeared to accuse the spinner of exceeding the 15-degree elbow extension limit, deemed illegal under cricketing laws.

Rather than report the matter to the umpires, Munro confronted the bowler directly. The confrontation quickly escalated into a verbal exchange, leading to intervention from the umpires and fielding captain Mohammad Rizwan. The Multan skipper attempted to defuse the situation and encouraged the Kiwi batter to focus on batting. Iftikhar, visibly agitated by the accusation, walked up to the umpires asking for immediate clarification. However, the officials decided to resume the game without taking any on-field action.

Notably, Munro was dismissed in the very next over, caught by Iftikhar himself off Michael Bracewell’s bowling, after scoring 45 off 28 deliveries. Despite the controversy, his innings helped Islamabad in successfully chasing the target. The star of the night, however, was wicketkeeper-opener Andries Gous, whose unbeaten 80 off just 45 balls guided United to a seven-wicket win with 17 balls to spare.

While Islamabad United extended their unbeaten streak to five matches and strengthened their position atop the PSL 2025 points table, the altercation between Munro and Iftikhar grabbed headlines. The Multan all-rounder, who conceded 20 runs in two wicketless overs at an economy of 10.00, also scored 10 off 8 balls with the bat in the first innings, where his side posted 168 for the loss of five wickets at the Multan Cricket Stadium.
