The crowd at some of the Indian Premier League (IPL) games are fun and jubilant in their own unique way. That was the case during Match 33 between the Mumbai Indians (MI) and the Chennai Super Kings at the Wankhede Stadium.
Prior to the start of the game, the cameras turned towards a fan in the crowd, who looked identical to the former MI and Sri Lanka fast bowler Lasith Malinga. The fan had a pretty much identical hairstyle and beard and was even seen donning the same MI training jersey as the legendary right-arm fast bowler.
Malinga is widely regarded as one of the greatest overseas players to represent the Mumbai-based franchise in the history of the IPL. The former Sri Lanka captain went on to play for MI in nine seasons of the IPL, where he made 122 appearances, taking 170 wickets along the way at an economy rate of just 7.14.
Malinga formed part of four title-winning MI sides, in 2013, 2015, 2017 and 2019 before retiring from the tournament. He is currently the bowling coach for the five-time champions, where he gets to work with world-class pacers, including Trent Boult and Jasprit Bumrah.
The video of Malinga’s lookalike cheering MI from the stands can be seen below:
