Abhishek Sharma and Ishan Kishan shared a frustrating conversation in the middle following a lapse in communication, resulting in a run-out during India’s first T20I against England in Chester-le-Street on Wednesday, July 1.
After Sanju Samson was dismissed early in the second over, Kishan came out to join his Sunrisers Hyderabad teammate. On his second delivery, the left-handed batter flicked the ball to mid-wicket, wanting a quick single to get off the mark. Sprinting down the wicket, the 27-year-old was sent back midway, with England captain Harry Brook throwing the ball quickly back to the wicketkeeper Jos Buttler, resulting in a run-out.
What followed was an uncomfortable exchange between the two batters.
“Did you reach or not?” Abhishek Sharma asked Ishan Kishan
“What are you doing, Ishan?” a frustrated Abhishek said Kishan
“It was right in front and was my call,” Kishan replied before he was given out.

The unfortunate run-out did not slow Abhishek down. The opening batter went on to score 59 runs off just 24 balls, striking at 245.83 before falling to Sam Curran.
India registered 189 runs from their 20 overs, with Shreyas Iyer scoring his first half-century since being named captain of the T20I side. They lost a total of seven wickets, with returning Saqib Mahmood ending with figures of 3 for 33.
The Men in Blue, however, did not get an opportunity to bowl to the opposition as rain prevented the second innings from commencing, resulting in the match being called off.
The second T20I of this five-match series will take place at Old Trafford in Manchester on Saturday, July 4.
