Rain played spoilsport to the Kolkata Knight Riders’ clash against the Punjab Kings at the Eden Gardens in Match 12 of the 2026 Indian Premier League

After opting to bat first, KKR reached 25/2 in 3.2 overs before the game was stopped due to rain. Punjab’s Xavier Bartlett managed to sneak in the wickets of Finn Allen and Cameron Green in the short span, both being undone by accurate bowling from the Aussie quick.

Outside of the action on the pitch, a viral video has emerged showing KKR co-owner Shah Rukh Khan in an intense discussion with franchise CEO Venky Mysore, as the proceedings were halted. While the agenda of the discussion was not known, many speculated that KKR’s struggles could be the cause of it.

KKR started the season poorly, with significant losses in their first two games. After spending big money on the likes of Cameron Green and Matheesa Pathirana in the auction, their squad has been hit by injuries and unavailabiluty concerns.

A poor bowling display at the Wankhede Stadium meant Mumbai Indians chased down 221 with ease. This was followed by a 65-run loss at home against the Sunrisers Hyderabad, who skittled them out for 161 while defending 227. Further criticism was observed on Rahane’s decision to bat after winning the toss against Punjab Kings in overcast conditions.

KKR have been facing problems off the field as well. Bangladesh fast-bowler Mustafizur Rahman had to be withdrawn from the IPL due to a BCCI mandate and his exit was followed by injuries to star Indian quicks Harshit Rana and Akash Deep, with both ruled out of the season. Further, Pathirana is yet to receive fitness clearance from Sri Lanka, and the franchise has been in a tussle over Cameron Green’s bowling, as he continues to recover from a lower back issue.

KKR will take on the Lucknow Super Giants on April 9 at the Eden Gardens, as they look to get their season underway with a win.
