Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s (RCB) former owner and business tycoon, Vijay Mallya’s son, Siddharth Mallya, broke down in tears after the franchise finally lifted its maiden IPL (Indian Premier League) trophy after an 18-year-long wait. RCB’s exciting six-run victory over Punjab Kings in the IPL 2025 edition final triggered emotional celebrations amongst fans, players, and celebrities.

Since the start of the cash-rich league in 2008, RCB has become one of the most loved franchises. However, their failure to win a title, despite having legends like Virat Kohli, AB de Villiers, and Chris Gayle. The title drought, which spanned across nearly two decades, was finally broken on Tuesday as RCB defended 190 against PBKS to be named the new champions.

For the Mallyas, the victory was personal as they once were closely associated with the team. In a video shared by Siddharth on his social media just a few moments after the win, the 38-year-old was seemingly emotional and in tears.

Vijay Mallya ecstatic on RCB’s historical IPL victory

Meanwhile, his father, Vijay Mallya, who had purchased the Bengaluru franchise in 2008, also shared heartfelt posts on X and congratulated the side for finally breaking their jinx. Mallya reflected on his early decisions that shaped RCB’s identity.

“RCB are IPL Champions finally after 18 years. Superb campaign right through the 2025 tournament. A well balanced team Playing Bold with outstanding coaching and support staff. Many congratulations! Ee sala cup namde!!” Mallya wrote on his ‘X’ handle.

“When I founded RCB it was my dream that the IPL trophy should come to Bengaluru. I had the privilege of picking the legendary King Kohli as a youngster and it is remarkable that he has stayed with RCB for 18 years. I also had the honour of picking Chris Gayle the Universe Boss and Mr 360 AB DeVillers who remain an indelible part of RCB history,” he further expressed his thoughts via another post.

“Finally, the IPL trophy arrives in Bengaluru. Congratulations and thanks again to all who made my dream come true. RCB fans are the very best, and they deserve the IPL trophy. Ee Sala Cup Bengaluru baruthe!” Mallya concluded.
