Sanjiv Goenka cut a dejected figure after Rishabh Pant‘s horror show with the bat continued in IPL 2025. The Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) clashed with Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) at the Ekana Cricket Stadium on Monday, May 19. The passionate LSG owner was watching the action whilst standing in the balcony. However, after Pant was dismissed for a six-ball seven, Goenka turned around and stormed back into the air-conditioned box.

Pant walked out to bat in the 11th over after openers Aiden Markram and Mitchell Marsh laid a stellar platform for LSG with a 115-run partnership. The stage was set for the LSG captain to play his naturally aggressive game. However, he was dismissed tamely, chipping a return catch to Sri Lankan pacer Eshan Malinga, who showed great athleticism and sharp reflexes, diving to his left on his follow-through.

Pant, who became the most expensive player in IPL history when LSG roped him in for INR 27 crore at the mega auction last year, has only managed 135 runs in 12 games at a dismal average of 12.27 and strike rate of 100.

LSG post 205/7 in first innings

Earlier in the day, SRH skipper Pat Cummins won the toss and opted to field first. He would have been worried after the blistering start that Marsh (65 off 39) and Markram (61 off 38) gave the home side, however, SRH pulled things back wonderfully well in the backend of the innings.

Markram couldn’t accelerate after scoring his half-century, and Nicholas Pooran (43) didn’t have much support from the other end. Akash Deep hit a six off the last ball to take LSG past the 200-run mark. However, at one stage, it seemed that they would amass a 220-plus total. Malinga was the pick of the bowlers for SRH, finishing with figures of 2/28 in his four overs.
