[WATCH] IPL 2025: Rishabh Pant withdraws appeal after Digvesh Rathi runs out non-striker Jitesh Sharma

The Lucknow Super Giants skipper Rishabh Pant won praise for choosing to withdraw a non-striker run-out appeal against Royal Challengers Bengaluru skipper Jitesh Sharma off the bowling of Digvesh Rathi, in Match 70 of IPL 2025. The game was important for RCB, who were eyeing a top-two finish to gain two opportunities to reach the IPL final.

Meanwhile, the incident took place in the 17th over of RCB’s chase, Jitesh, having just reached his maiden IPL fifty with a colossal six off a free hit, was looking to take the side over the line. On the fourth delivery of the over, Digvesh broke the stumps at the non-striker’s end with the RCB skipper well out of his crease.

While Rathi appealed and the on-field umpires referred the decision to the third umpire, the LSG skipper intervened and withdrew the appeal. The third umpire confirmed that Jitesh was out of his ground, but Pant’s withdrawal meant that he survived. After the big screen displayed Not Out, Jitesh walked up and hugged Pant.

Interestingly, the first ball of the same over had seen the right-handed batter dismissed off a reverse sweep, only for it to emerge as a back-foot no-ball as Rathi’s foot touched the return crease. The no-ball proved costly, as the RCB skipper survived while batting on 49 and went on to bring up his fifty with a six.

Eventually, Jitesh, along with Mayank Agarwal’s heroics, helped RCB chase down the target with ease to seal their place in Qualifier 1, where they will take on Punjab Kings on May 29. The win also meant that RCB became the first team in IPL history to win all seven away matches in a single season.
