Luke Wood dismissed Evin Lewis for a first-ball duck on the first ball of the match during the second T20I of the ongoing series between England and the West Indies at the County Ground in Bristol. Wood became the third English bowler to take a wicket off the first ball of a T20I. On the other hand, Lewis became only the second West Indian batter to be dismissed on the first ball of a T20I.

The delivery that brought about the southpaw’s end was a perfect inswinging yorker from Wood, which thudded into Lewis’ right boot. The on-field umpire had no hesitation in raising his finger. Lewis felt that he had gotten a part of a bat onto the ball and decided to challenge the decision upstairs. However, the replays suggested that the bat had instead hit the ground and not the ball.

Speaking of the series opener, England emerged victorious by 21 runs at the Riverside Ground in Chester-le-Street. Jos Buttler (96 off 59) top-scored for the hosts after they had won the toss and opted to bat first. Gudakesh Motie (0/21 in four overs) was the pick of the bowlers from the Men in Maroon.

Coming to the run-chase, a middle-order collapse meant the Windies could never really push to get close to the target with any authority. Lewis’ 23-ball 39 was the highest for his side. Liam Dawson registered his career-best T20I figures of 4/20 in four overs.
