Rishabh Pant provided a epic response to Sunil Gavaskar’s ‘superb, superb, superb’ comment following his sensational ton in India’s first innings of the first Test of the five-match series between England and India. He then went onto offer a frank reflection into how he felt after scoring his seventh century in the longest format.

Indian batter Cheteshwar Pujara asked Pant how he felt after Gavaskar’s remarks changed from ‘stupid, stupid’ to ‘superb, superb’. For the unversed, the Boxing Day Test against Australia in the 2024-25 edition of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy saw Gavaskar remark ‘stupid, stupid, stupid’ on air after the southpaw played a reckless shot off the bowling of Scott Boland’s to gift his wicket away at a crucial juncture in the game.

“The feeling is the same as how you’re feeling at this time. It feels extremely good when you work on your weaknesses and convert setbacks into comebacks. That was the thought process. Josh Tongue (4/86 in 20 overs) and Ben Stokes (4/66 in 20 overs) were the standout performers for the hosts. India ended up getting bowled out for 471 in 113 overs.
