Danni Wyatt-Hodge made a brilliant save near the boundary ropes, helping England Women save at least two runs against the West Indies Women in the third and final T20I of the series in Chelmsford on Monday, May 26. The effort did not go in vain, as the home side eventually went on to win the match by 17 runs to clean sweep the series against the visiting side by 3-0.

The fielding effort in concern occurred on the third ball of the 13th over during West Indies’ chase. Having lost three wickets while chasing a target of 145, the 2016 Women’s T20 World Cup champions were in trouble and did not have the momentum going. While Matthews was batting well from her end, the required run rate was constantly rising.

Em Arlott delivered the ball on a good length and towards the pads. The star batter flicked the ball towards the deep midwicket region, where Wyatt-Hodge was stationed. Initially, she went for the catch. However, she realized that it was a bit too difficult to catch the ball.

After registering a golden duck earlier in the match the star England player redeemed herself with her brilliant fielding effort. Wyatt-Hodge pushed the ball back towards the field and saved runs for her side. Meanwhile, Matthews got to her second 50+ score of the series in the process.

The star batter ended up scoring 71(54), which was not enough for the West Indies. In fact, she was almost a lone warrior for the team in the entire series and was rightly named the Player of the Series for her all-round efforts.

Earlier in the match, Matthews claimed 3/32 with the ball, dismissing key batters like Sophia Dunkley, Nat Sciver-Brunt, and Amy Jones. In the three matches of the series, the star player scored 177 runs and claimed three wickets. While England Women clinched the series 3-0 with sheer dominance, it was Matthews who won the Player of the Series Award.
