Virat Kohli completes most fifties in IPL, goes past David Warner’s tally

Virat Kohli completes most fifties in IPL, goes past David Warner's tally

With his 67th half-century in the Indian Premier League, star RCB batter Virat Kohli now has the most fifties in the league’s history. He went past David Warner’s tally of 66 half-centuries to add yet another feather to his illustrious cap. He reached the milestone during the Match 37 of the ongoing 2025 edition between Punjab Kings and Royal Challengers Bengaluru on Sunday, April 20 at Mullanpur.

He had already equalled the Australia batter’s tally during the game against Rajasthan Royals at Jaipur last Sunday. But the brilliant knock against PBKS during the run chase in the afternoon fixture helped the Delhi-born get past the Southpaw after 252 innings. Notably, Kohli is also the highest run-getter in IPL history, which makes him one of the most decorated batters in the mega tournament.

Most half-centuries in IPL

The list of players with most half-centuries in the league includes some of the most legendary names who have graced the league with their batting brilliance. After Kohli and Warner, is another Delhi-born and now retired Shikhar Dhawan (53 fifties). On number four currently is former Mumbai Indians captain Rohit Sharma, with 45 fifties, in addition to two centuries. Following Rohit are ex-RCB batter AB de Villiers and KL Rahul with 43 fifties each.

S. No. Player Name Half-centuries Innings taken
1 Virat Kohli 67* 252
2 David Warner 66 184
3 Shikhar Dhawan 53 221
4 Rohit Sharma 44 258
5 AB de Villiers 43 170
6 KL Rahul 43 129

Speaking more of Kohli’s record-breaking feat, he remained unbeaten on 73 from 54 balls, as RCB chased down the 158-run target set by Punjab comfortably with seven wickets to spare. Kohli was also the highest run-getter from the game and was involved in anchoring the run chase, where him and Devdutt Padikkal put up a century stand to ease down the run chase. Padikkal departed with the win only being a formality, which was then completed by Jitesh Sharma, who hit the winning runs.
