Rohit Sharma smashed a breathtaking century against Sikkim, while Virat Kohli’s match-winning effort came against Andhra Pradesh on the opening day of the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2025-26.

At the BCCI Centre of Excellence Ground 1 on Wednesday, December 24, Kohli decimated the Andhra Pradesh bowling attack, which comprised the likes of Indian all-rounder Nitish Kumar Reddy, former Mumbai Indians pacer Satyanaraya Raju, and India A spinner Saurabh Kumar, among others.

Chasing a 299-run target, Kohli smashed 131 off 101 balls, hitting 14 fours and one six. He was eventually dismissed by Raju in the 33rd over, but Delhi had already reached within touching distance of the target. During his knock, he brought up 16,000 runs in List-A cricket.

Apart from Kohli, Priyansh Arya and Nitish Rana scored blistering half-centuries. Captain Rishabh Pant, who also played the match, was dismissed for five runs. In the end, Harsh Tyagi and Navdeep Saini took their team over the line in 37.4 overs with four wickets in the bank.

On the other hand, Rohit Sharma enthralled around 12,000 fans at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur on Wednesday. The 38-year-old put the Sikkim bowlers to the sword, smashing boundaries at will on a belter of a track.

Rohit brought up his half-century in just 27 balls. 35 deliveries later, he brought up a three-figure score. The 38-year-old smashed 80 out of his first 100 runs in boundaries, hitting eight fours and as many sixes.

However, the carnage didn’t stop there, as he went on to amass 155 off just 94 balls. The Nagpur-born belted 18 fours and nine sixes during his knock and finished with a strike rate of 164.89. After he was dismissed 11 runs short of the target of the 237-run target, Musheer Khan and Sarfaraz Khan took their team home in 30.3 overs, with eight wickets to spare.

Both Rohit and Kohli won the Player of the Match awards in the two games, much to the delight of their millions of fans around the world.
