England kept themselves alive in the five-match series against India after a 26-run victory in the third match at Rajkot’s Niranjan Shah Stadium after losing two games in a row. This has set up the series well with two matches to go, with England staying in the must-win zone as the hosts need only one victory to claim the T20I series.

Meanwhile, the loss in Rajkot has led to some criticism of India’s batting approach as well as the decision to bowl first on a wicket where the ball gripped and turned. However, the best player for the Men in Blue, Varun Chakravarthy, who took a five-wicket haul, has backed the approach of the batters despite the disappointing result.

“We have to win two matches because we have to settle down a few more games and we have to test and try for other batsmen also,” Chakravarthy said in the post-match press conference.

“I don’t think the toss went against us because that’s what we have done the last two matches and we won, And that’s the nature of the game, sir. The last match also went close. We could have ended up losing, and this match we could have ended up winning, T20 is supposed to be aggressive.

“You can’t complain much, and it is a very result-oriented game. So, I get what you are trying to say, but this is how they have decided to play, and this is the brand of cricket the Indian team wants to play, and they are doing it well,” Chakravarthy added.

Speaking of Chakravarthy’s performance, he finished with his second-best figures in T20Is, taking 5/24 in his four overs. He was adjudged the Player of the Match in a rare occasion where a player from the losing side got the honour.
