‘The incident is regrettable’ – CSA releases statement on Kagiso Rabada’s failed drug test

'The incident is regrettable' - CSA releases statement on Kagiso Rabada's failed drug test

The Cricket South Africa (CSA) has issued a statement regarding the recent drug-related case of bowler Kagiso Rabada, who was playing in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025. The pacer returned from the tournament citing personal reasons.

However, after a few weeks, he opened up about the suspension he received for failing the dope test. After he revealed his part of the story, CSA came forward to inform the fans regarding their policies and how they condemn the usage of prohibited substances in both professional and amateur cricket.

The Board also said that Rabada has assured the fans that this wouldn’t happen again. However, the player has received a suspension for his actions. The exact time frame of his suspension hasn’t been made official yet though.

“Cricket South Africa (CSA) can confirm that Proteas Men right arm fast bowler Kagiso Rabada has returned an adverse analytical finding for the use of a prohibited substance. The incident is regrettable, however, Rabada has reassured CSA and his fans of his commitment to upholding professional standards and has restated his passion to the sport of cricket and the country he represents with purpose,” read a statement by CSA.

“CSA is fully committed to drug-free sport and reminds cricket players, both professional and amateur, of the importance of adhering to all regulations. We are steadfast in our support to all players in this regard,” added CSA.

As per some reports, Rabada will be back in the national squad for the upcoming World Test Championship (WTC) finals in June. He is a crucial bowler and will serve a certain period of suspension to get back into the team.

“Rabada has not played a match since the end of March, while the exact length of his sanction has not been confirmed. However, it’s understood that Rabada’s ‘ban’ is expected to be within the range of a single month, and some of this looks to have been effectively served already. It means Rabada should soon be back in action, and there is no threat that it could impact his participation in the World Test Championship final against Australia in June,” read the report.
