The Northern Superchargers Women etched their name in history by securing their first-ever The Hundred Women’s title, defeating the Southern Brave Women in a rain-affected contest. Opting to field first after winning the toss, the Superchargers made early breakthroughs.
Southern Brave’s innings got off to a shaky start as they lost two quick wickets, with Kate Cross leading from the front with disciplined bowling. The experienced pairing of Danni Wyatt-Hodge and Sophie Devine attempted to steady the innings, adding valuable runs in the middle. However, they could not fully seize control of the game, with Wyatt-Hodge scoring 25 and Devine contributing 23.
The Southern Brave’s batting effort lacked momentum, but young Freya Kemp played a fighting cameo. Her 26 off just 17 balls provided some impetus to the innings, helping her side reach a modest total of 115 for 6 in their 100 balls. Cross impressed with figures of 2 for 23, while Annabel Sutherland matched her efforts with 2 for 23 of her own, ensuring the Superchargers carried the advantage into the chase.
Chasing 116 for victory, the Superchargers faced a few hiccups. They lost their first wicket with the score on 28 and were reduced to 59 for 3 following the dismissals of Alice Davidson-Richards and Phoebe Litchfield. Litchfield’s quickfire 26 from 13 balls, however, kept the scoreboard ticking and eased some pressure.
From there, Sutherland and Nicola Carey took charge with a composed, unbeaten stand of 60 runs. The pair guided the Superchargers to victory with 12 balls to spare, sealing a memorable maiden title. Carey finished unbeaten on 35, while Sutherland contributed a steady 28.
For the Southern Brave, wickets were shared between Devine, Mady Villiers, and Chloe Tryon, but the bowling unit failed to make enough breakthroughs. Carey’s all-round show earned her the Player of the Match, while Litchfield capped off a superb tournament as the Player of the Series, finishing as the leading run-scorer with 292 runs in 10 innings at an average of 41.71.
