England clinched a tense five-wicket victory over Scotland in their T20 World Cup 2026 Group C encounter at the Eden Gardens, Kolkata, on February 14.
After being asked to bat first, Scotland posted a respectable total of 152 runs with contributions from Richie Berrington (49 off 32), Michael Jones (33 off 20), Tom Bruce (24 off 18) and Olivier Davidson (unbeaten 20 off 15) before getting all-out in 19.4 overs. Berrington and Bruce showed resilience against an experienced English attack after the top-order’s collapse, as they put on a respectable total, ensuring they were not completely out of the contest.
England spinner Adil Rashid was the pick of the bowlers, while Jofra Archer also found his mojo back, picking up two crucial wickets.
In response, England got off to a horror start, losing both the experienced openers Phil Salt and Jos Buttler cheaply. Scotland continued to fight impressively, picking up regular breakthroughs. The pressure forced England into some tight moments, with key wickets falling at crucial junctures.
It was England’s middle order that ultimately steadied the chase, rotating strike efficiently and finding boundaries when they mattered most. Tom Banton, along with Jacob Bethell, Sam Curran, and Will Jacks took England over the line. This win keeps England well-placed in Group C, while Scotland will now face Nepal to keep their hopes alive.
