The T20 World Cup 2026 has thrown up some fascinating plots beyond the big names, with a few associate nations firmly in the hunt for the coveted Super 8s spot. From USA’s spirited performance against India to Netherlands’ fight against Pakistan, associate nations have showed that they are here to put on a fight. While traditionally Full Member nations. dominate the discussions, this edition has seen emerging sides put in some encouraging performances that could see them advance to the next round.

Here are three associate teams that could make it to the Super 8s:

3. USA

The United States of America have been one of the standout associate performers in the tournament so far. Sitting on four points from their four games in Group A, USA have already shown they can mix with stronger sides, including a dominant win over Netherlands, where they won the match with a handsome margin of 93 runs.

The Americans continued their form, winning the next match against Namibia. Their positive net run rate gives them the edge over some others in their group. If Pakistan lose their next match, then USA will have a chance of making it to the Super 8s.

2. Ireland

Included in Group B along with giants Australia. Ireland have a huge task at their hands, if they want to qualify for the Super 8s, as they sit on the third spot in their group with one win in three matches. After suffering two consecutive losses against Sri Lanka and Australia, they came back strongly against Oman, winning by 96 runs margin to improve their net run rate.

They have one match remaining against Zimbabwe, who currently sit at the second position. If they win the contest, it will create pressure on either Australia or Sri Lanka, whoever loses the match between them. So, the equation for Ireland is simple: win their own and match and wait for the other games to go their way.

1. Scotland

Scotland have been another associate team that refuses to be written off easily. With two points from three matches, they have competed strongly against established teams like England and West Indies. A positive net run rate, way better than England, gives them a real chance.

Scotland’s spirited performances suggest they have both the temperament and talent to upset higher-ranked opponents and earn a Super 8 spot if results go their way.

They have one match remaining against Nepal. And if they manage to win, they will reach four points, leapfrogging England due to better NRR. With the West Indies already qualified, it is a two-horse race between Scotland and England.
