T20 Mumbai League 2025: Who is Atharva Ankolekar, who beats Ayush Mhatre to become most expensive in auction?

The most-anticipated T20 Mumbai League’s auction grabbed headlines for grabbing promising young cricketers like Ayush Mhatre, Atharva Ankolekar, Musheer Khan, Suryansh Shedge, and Angkrish Raghuvanshi. The 3rd season of the auction started with many players, including the CSK’s star batter Ayush Mhatre, who was bought by Triumph Knights Mumbai NorthEast for a whopping amount of INR 14.75 lakhs.

However, the 17-year-old cricketer was surpassed by the 24-year-old all-rounder Atharva Ankolekar, who became the most expensive player in the auction. He was grabbed by the Eagle Thane Strikers for INR 16.25 lakhs. He instantly came into the limelight after this feat. Moreover, Musheer Khan was picked up by ARCS Andheri for INR 15 lakhs.

As per reports, senior players like Ajinkya Rahane (Bandra Blasters), Shreyas Iyer (SoBo Mumbai Falcons), Prithvi Shaw (North Mumbai Panthers), Shivam Dube (ARCS Andheri), Shardul Thakur (Eagle Thane Strikers), Sarfaraz Khan (Aakash Tigers Mumbai Western Suburbs), and Tushar Deshpande (Mumbai South Central Maratha Royals) will also be a part of the tournament.

The auction was divided into different categories like First Class, List A or T20, emerging players, and development players. Moreover, the auction price was included in the following categories: Rs 5 lakh, Rs 3 lakh, and Rs 2 lakh, respectively. The franchise had a purse value of INR 1 crores, and they had to mandatorily keep a minimum of four senior players, at least five emerging players, and at least five development players in their final squad, which must consist of at least 18 members.

  • Angkrish Raghuvanshi (₹14 lakh) – SoBo Mumbai Falcons
  • Shams Mulani (₹14 lakh) – Aakash Tigers Mumbai Western Suburbs
