Sunil Narine has become the first overseas cricketer in the Indian Premier League to go past the 200-wicket milestone, as he took two scalps in his spell for Kolkata Knight Riders against Sunrisers Hyderabad in Match 45 of IPL 2026 at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium on Sunday, May 03. Narine is already the third-highest wicket-taker in the history of the tournament.
Ahead of the match, Narine had 199 scalps in the league and finished with a spell of 2-31 in his four overs against SRH to complete 201 career wickets. His first wicket came in the form of Salil Arora, who was cleaned up through an unplayable delivery. For the unversed, the Caribbean cricketer has also become the only bowler in IPL history to have picked more than 200 wickets while playing for only one team. Jasprit Bumrah (186) and Lasith Malinga (170) are next on the list with most wickets for a single team in the marquee T20 tournament. Both have done so for Mumbai Indians.
Narine’s IPL career is already a legendary one. He has played 197 matches in the tournament, bowling at a mind-boggling economy of 6.79 over the years to lace his stint. Having made his debut in 2012, Narine has seven four-wicket hauls and a five-wicket haul in the league. He has been part of all three seasons of KKR winning the IPL title (2012, 2014, and 2024) and has become an indispensable part of the franchise.
