The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 Final is currently underway at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on June 3. This year, both Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and Punjab Kings (PBKS) are aiming to secure their maiden IPL title.

RCB have previously reached the IPL final on three occasions – 2009, 2011 and 2016. They also played in the 2011 Champions League T20 final. Notably, in all four finals they have appeared in so far, RCB have chased a target and ended up on the losing side.

RCB’s first final appearance came in 2009, where they faced the Deccan Chargers (DC). DC set a target of 143 runs, with the help of Herschelle Gibbs (53*). RCB’s Anil Kumble delivered a brilliant spell by picking up four wickets in his four overs. However, the team fell short by six runs and narrowly missed the title.

In the 2011 final, RCB took on Chennai Super Kings (CSK), who posted a formidable 205 runs courtesy of a dominant batting display from Murali Vijay (95) and Michael Hussey (63). RCB struggled in the chase and eventually lost by 58 runs.

RCB had another shot at the silverware in the 2011 Champions League T20 final, where they faced Mumbai Indians (MI). They were chasing a modest target of 140, and collapsed under pressure to be bowled out for just 108, falling short by 31 runs.

The 2016 final saw RCB facing Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH). David Warner’s (69) and Yuvraj Singh and Ben Cutting’s contributions helped them post 208 on the board. Despite a quick start from Chris Gayle (76) and Virat Kohli (54), RCB fell short by eight runs in another heartbreaking defeat.

As RCB took the field in the IPL 2025 final batting first, their supporters would be hopeful that this might finally break their title drought and bring the trophy home.
