ENG vs IND 2025: Jamie Smith, Harry Brook team up to milk runs off India in first session of Day 3 (Source: X)

Harry Brook and Jamie Smith joined hands in the first session of Day 3 of the ongoing Test between England and India to shift the momentum towards the hosts. England had lost two wickets in successive deliveries in just the second over of the day, but eventually ended up scoring 172 runs in 27 overs.

Smith piled on more misery on the Indians by getting his second Test ton in the final over of the opening session. The 172 runs conceded in the period was the third-most number of runs conceded by India in a single session in Test cricket since 2015.

Most runs conceded by India in a single session in Tests since 2015 (as of July 4, 2025):

Opposition Day and Session Venue Year Runs conceded
Australia Day 4, Session 3 Sydney 2015 213
England Day 2, Session 3 Rajkot 2024 176
England Day 3, Session 1 Birmingham 2025 172
Australia Day 2, Session 3 Brisbane 2024 171
West Indies Day 5, Session 1 Kingston 2016 167

The highlight of the session was Prasidh Krishna’s sixth over, as he was taken to the cleaners by Smith. The lanky right-arm pacer conceded 23 runs as the wicketkeeper-batter launched a brutal assault. By the end of the over, he was one shy of his half-century.

Prasidh’s figures by the end of the session read 0/61 in eight overs. He was taken off by Shubman Gill till the end of the session as Ravindra Jadeja and Washington Sundar operated in tandem after that. However, even they could never curb the flow of runs.

Earlier in the day, England were dealt with major blows by Mohammed Siraj, who dismissed Joe Root (22 off 46) and Ben Stokes (zero off one) off successive deliveries, leaving England 84 for 5. However, from from that point, Brook and Jamie started dominating proceedings.
