Sri Lanka vs Australia Test Series 2025: Schedule & Squads

Sri Lanka will host Australia for a two-match Test series, starting January 29, 2025, at the Galle International Stadium. Notably both the Test matches will be played at this venue.

The Dhananjaya de Silva-led Sri Lankan side is looking forward to a comeback after their 0-2 series loss to South Africa. Meanwhile, the hosts are battling with a few injuries, including Dhananjaya, Kamindu Mendis, and Pathum Nissanka. Spinner Prabath Jayasuriya, who shone in Sri Lanka’s recent victory against New Zealand, is expected to play a crucial role alongside Nishan Peiris and Jeffrey Vandersay.

Jayasuriya is expected to bowl a major chunk of overs, with support from Dhananjaya, Nishan Peiris, and leg spinner Jeffrey Vandersay. Veteran batters Angelo Mathews and Dinesh Chandimal will be given the responsibility of anchoring the batting order.

Meanwhile, Australia enter the series having secured a 3-1 win over India in the 2023-25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy and a World Test Championship final berth. Steve Smith will lead the visitors in the absence of Pat Cummins, with Travis Head serving as vice-captain and opening alongside Usman Khawaja. The side is also without the service of Josh Hazelwood and Mitchell Marsh, with the duo focussing on the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy.

Meanwhile, left-arm spinner Matthew Kuhnemann, recovering from a thumb injury, will strengthen the visitor’s spin attack alongside Nathan Lyon and Todd Murphy. Interestingly, Baggy Green leads the head-to-head record with 20 wins in 33 matches, but Sri Lanka will hope the home conditions give them an upper hand.
