'Soaking up all insights and tricks ' - Phoebe Litchfield opens up on her personal goals for WPL

Australian batter Phoebe Litchfield, who is currently playing for the Gujarat Giants (GG) in the ongoing Women’s Premier League (WPL 2025), opened up about her personal goals for the competition and how she hopes to evolve as a player through this five-team tournament.

Litchfield, playing her second game of this edition, displayed her brilliance under pressure against the defending champions, Royal Challengers Bengaluru. She played a series of reverse sweeps to tackle Sneh Rana’s threat. Even when she was dropped on 11 by Richa Ghosh, Litchfield stuck to her aggressive approach and helped her team chase down the target comfortably. Her 30* off 23 balls, alongside Ashleigh Gardner’s 58, sealed GG’s six-wicket win, with 21 balls to spare. The Australian shed light on how the WPL gave her an opportunity to learn and grow her game.

“I’ve used this platform to learn heaps. It’s one of the best tournaments in the world, featuring world-class players, and it’s a great challenge. Now that I’ve got my chance in the middle order, I hope to keep it. Laura Wolvaardt is still knocking on the door with some amazing shots in the nets, so it’s a pretty competitive environment. But I’m glad to have this opportunity. With a World Cup coming up in a few months,” Litchfield was quoted as saying by the Jio Hotstar.

Gujarat Giants sitting on the fifth spot in the points table

For Phoebe Litchfield, the WPL isn’t just about displaying her talent, it’s a learning experience with bigger goals in mind. With the Women’s World Cup set to be played in India in just a few months, she is trying to get as much knowledge as she can. With the Giants’ mixed results so far, they are sitting fifth on the table with two wins and three losses. The side’s next game is against UP Warriorz Women, set to be played on March 3, in Lucknow.

“I’m soaking up all the insights and tricks I can get in India while also enjoying the experience because playing cricket here is the best thing ever! Tonight was a lot of fun,” Litchfield concluded.
