In this blog, we are going to discuss the reasons why Shakib Al Hasan and Wanindu Hasaranga are tied at the top of the list of T20I all-rounders. The ICC Men’s T20I rankings have been updated after the recently concluded Bangladesh-Sri Lanka series and Bangladesh-Zimbabwe series, which ended 3-0 and 1-2, respectively.

After making a comeback to T20I cricket after a hiatus of almost 10 months, Bangladesh’s Shakib Al Hasan’s rating took a hit by three points following his outings in the final couple of T20Is which he featured in during the five-match T20I series. Following the southpaw getting dismissed in his comeback innings for just a unitary run, he rebounded with the ball, taking four wickets, although being a bit more expensive than most of his fellow bowlers. However, the fifth T20I proved to be a much more well-rounded performance by the veteran, who scored 21 (17) in the first innings before conceding only nine runs in his quota, in a match where he had the best economy rate by quite a margin.

The minor slip, in turn, prompted Sri Lanka’s T20I skipper, Wanindu Hasaranga, to the top spot, which is shared with Shakib at the present moment, both having 228 rating points to their name. Speaking of Hasaranga’s sole outing after being suspended for the first two T20Is of the three-match T20I series against Bangladesh, he scored a 13-delivery 15, after which he scalped two dismissals while giving away 32 runs. However, Hasaranga’s break came in the Afghanistan T20I series in which three matches were played after every alternate day, in which the 26-year-old was adjudged the Player of the Series award for scoring 102 runs and four wickets throughout the entirety of the series.

Sifting down the heap, Mohammad Nabi of Afghanistan secures the third spot by retaining his locus, trailing just 10 rating points behind the top two. Meanwhile, Sikandar Raza of Zimbabwe climbed two spots, reaching the fourth position. South Africa’s Aiden Markram slipped one position to fifth place.
