Indian batter Ruturaj Gaikwad is be set for his maiden expedition in the County Championship after securing a deal with Yorkshire. He will join the squad prior to their clash against Surrey in July and will stay in the UK until the season concludes. Gaikwad will also feature in the One-Day Cup.

Currently a part of the India A unit, Gaikwad has failed to make it to the XI in the two games against England Lions. He has been out of cricketing action since sustaining an elbow injury which ruled him out for the majority of IPL 2025.

The 28-year-old seemed quite enthusiastic to contributing to Yorkshire’s success in the red and white-ball formats.

“I’m excited to be joining up with Yorkshire for the rest of the English domestic season. It has always been a goal of mine to experience cricket in this country and there is no bigger club in England than Yorkshire. I know how important it is that I hit the ground running at what will be a crucial part of the season. We have some vital games in the County Championship and the One-Day Cup is a great opportunity to win some silverware,” Gaikwad was quoted as saying by Cricbuzz.

Gaikwad’s an accomplished cricketer with natural all-round game: Anthony McGrath

Yorkshire’s head coach, Anthony McGrath, seemed to be equally excited in having Gaikwad feature for the team and lavished praise on the top-order batter.

“I’m extremely pleased to see Ruturaj sign with us for the second-half of the season. He is a very accomplished cricketer with a natural all-round game that is well suited to the cricket we want to play. Ruturaj will give us some extra solidity in our batting lineup whilst having that ability to score quick runs when required. He’s an exciting talent and one I know is highly rated across the game,” mentioned McGrath.

Gaikwad is slated to be the fourth Indian to represent Yorkshire. Yorkshire are currently languishing in the ninth position in Division One of the 2024-25 installment of the County Championship. It will be intriguing to witness whether Gaikwad’s signing makes any difference to the team’s current state.
