Star cricketer Rohit Sharma was batting in the nets at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Stadium in Lucknow when a shot hit off his blade and copped a blow on groundstaff member Siban Biswas’ left knee, leaving the latter in excruciating pain. The batting legend was quick to reach out to Siban and provided him an ice pack while also calling the medical staff to provide other first aid help.
The gesture shown by Rohit won the heart of Siban, who, despite having hurt his knee, was glad that a player as big came to check on him. He explained that he asked Rohit to keep batting and focus on practice, but the Mumbai Indians star persisted and went back to bat only after checking on whether there was any injury caused due to his shot.
“When Rohit Sharma sir told us to remove the off-side net, we did so and stood at the side. Just then, while I was wrapping the rope and not paying attention to the players nearby, the ball hit me on my left knee. Rohit sir immediately came and enquired about the injury, but I told him to continue batting and not to bother. Yet, he returned with an ice pack and also sent someone to give me some medicine and a spray to put on my leg,” groundstaff Siban Biswas, 27, told Mid-Day.
“It was mixed feelings… though my knee was in pain, but at the same time, it feels good because I got a handshake with Rohit sir,” added Biswas.
Speaking more about the experienced cricketer, Rohit himself has been dealing with an injury and is currently recuperating from a hamstring strain, which he underwent while batting during the IPL 2026 clash between Mumbai Indians and Royal Challengers Bengaluru at the Wankhede Stadium. Since then, he has missed all the matches for the five-time champions.
It is still uncertain whether Rohit will come out to bat during the game against Lucknow Super Giants, which is slated to be played on Monday, May 04. However, his return to the nets is a positive sign that his comeback to the field isn’t too far away.
