Asia Cup, the most prestigious cricketing competition in the continent, is now under a great threat of losing out on India’s participation. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has reportedly denied taking part in the meeting ahead of the tournament if the Asia Cricket Council (ACC) and its chairman Mohsin Naqvi do not agree on shifting the venue of the meeting out of Dhaka, Bangladesh.

The source in the report further said that the Indian board will not agree on the passing of any resolution if their demands are not met. Notably, the board has already written a request to chairman Naqvi regarding the venue change, however, the board has not received any response yet, the source said further.

“Asia Cup can happen only if the meeting venue changes from Dhaka,” a report by the Hindustan Times on Saturday, July 19 mentioned.

“ACC chairman Mohsin Naqvi is trying to assert unnecessary pressure on India for the meeting. We requested him to change the venue, but have received no response. BCCI will boycott any resolution if Mohsin Naqvi goes ahead with the meeting in Dhaka” it read further.

The 2025 edition of the multinational event is slated to be held in the United Arab Emirates, as multiple venues are situated in close vicinity and the logistical challenges are also very little. Moreover, cities like Dubai and Abu Dhabi have often been the most preferred venues whenever the need of hosting games at a neutral venue has been raised.

One of the possible reasons BCC is not okay with the meeting being in Dhaka is amid their ongoing geopolitical tensions with the neighbouring government. The two sides were slated to play a multi-format series in August, however, a recent press release by the BCCI confirmed that the tour, which involved three ODIs and as many T20Is, stands cancelled.
