Rachin Ravindra will miss the tri-series final between New Zealand and Pakistan, which is set to be played at the National Stadium in Karachi on Friday, February 14. The talented all-rounder is still recovering from a head injury he suffered during the first match against Pakistan in the tri-series.

New Zealand head coach Gary Stead revealed Ravindra had “had a headache for a few days” since suffering a nasty blow to the forehead when he spilt a chance in the outfield in the 78-run win versus Pakistan in Lahore last week. Rachin Ravindra had also missed New Zealand’s second match in the tri-series against South Africa due to the injury. While the southpaw did return to the nets on Thursday, Stead said that he is still not regained full fitness.

“The pleasing thing is that he’s progressing well. We’re following [head injury assessment] protocols at the moment,” Stead was quoted as saying by The New Zealand Herald.

“He’s had a headache for a few days but that’s subsiding, which is really good news. He hit a few balls tonight for the first time, which is good, but there are still a few more steps for him to go through before he can be considered fit for play,” he added.

Lockie’s had couple of bowls, pleased with how he’s tracking: Stead

Meanwhile, Stead gave a positive update regarding Lockie Ferguson’s injury status. The right-arm seamer has recovered well from a hamstring injury he suffered while bowling in the ILT20 2025 and is very close to returning to the ODI format after a 15-month hiatus.

“Lockie’s had a couple of bowls since he’s been here. He lifted the intensity up a little more tonight. Pleased with how he’s tracking so, certainly, we’ll look to have him playing in one of the next two games. If anyone’s got small niggles, we’re likely to be conservative around that, with the Champions Trophy just around the corner,” Stead concluded.
