The past several months have been forgettable for Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma. The two senior batters have undergone a huge slump in batting form, and the runs have been hard to come by for the star duo. A load of criticism by the cricket fraternity has already been directed their way due to the aforementioned reason. This, in turn, has put both the star cricketers’ future into a mist of uncertainty.

Former cricketer-turned-commentator, Irfan Pathan, predicted Virat and Rohit to find their groove in the limited-overs games, claiming it was their ‘favourite format’.

“They’ll start scoring runs in white-ball cricket; there’s no doubt about that. Test cricket is a different ball game altogether. Adjustments are needed, whether it’s Virat managing deliveries outside the off-stump or Rohit finding his rhythm. ODI is their favourite format, and they’ll bounce back strongly,” stated Irfan, as quoted by The Indian Express.

These guys have been exceptional performers in one-day cricket: Agarkar

A few days ago, chief selector, Ajit Agarkar, gave a brief statement on the transitional phase Indian cricket is undergoing, in the context of Virat and Rohit’s playing days.

“It’s a month away from the Champions Trophy. These guys have been exceptional performers in one-day cricket. We’ll see once the Champions Trophy is done, we’ve got a bit more time to sit and assess where everyone is. Not just one of the players but where we go forward. But at the moment, the focus is on one-day cricket and Champions Trophy,” noted Agarkar.

The duo retired from T20Is after the triumph in the T20 World Cup last year. With one format out of the window, it would be expected that Virat and Rohit make the most of their spare time to excel in the other two. As far as India’s ODI schedule is concerned, they will play three ODIs against England. The upcoming edition of the Champions Trophy serves as a definite opportunity for the two to rekindle the flames they have been so renowned to ignite in the one-day format.
