Not going to panic and throw everything out just because IPL 2025 hasn’t gone well: CSK batting coach Michael Hussey

Batting coach Michael Hussey asserted that Chennai Super Kings (CSK) will not ditch their core principles and practices just because they have not fared well in the ongoing edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL).

After suffering a four-wicket defeat at home against Punjab Kings earlier this week, the five-time champions’ hopes of making it to the playoffs ended. CSK have lost eight out of the 10 matches they have played so far this season. They will look to play for pride in their last four games in IPL 2025.

“We’re certainly not going to panic and throw everything out just because it hasn’t gone well this year. But we definitely need to tidy up on a few areas. There’s been lots of conversations… it’s given us a really clear view on what we need to look at for next season,” Hussey said on Friday (May 2), on the eve of their clash with Royal Challengers Bengaluru at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium.

While Hussey didn’t delve into the details regarding the plans for next year, he spoke about the insipid results at home in IPL 2025. They have lost five out of their six games played at Chepauk this year. The venue has been considered as CSK’s fortress because of their dominance there over the years. However, things haven’t gone their way this season. While they have not had much with the tosses, Hussey admitted that the performances haven’t measured up, regardless.

“It’s surprising, isn’t it, to lose so many games at home,” he said. “Other teams are getting better at playing at Chepauk as well… the dew’s played a bit of a factor too, making it easier to bat second. But I think it comes down to the way we’ve played in general, too many mistakes with bat, ball, and in the field,” Hussey said.

“It’s something that’s hurt us because we love playing in front of our home fans and they turn up in great numbers and support us every time and we love to have big wins in front of them. So it has been disappointing certainly to lose games at home,” he added.

RCB, on the other hand, are in the hunt for a place in the playoffs. They have seven wins from 10 games and are positioned at No. 3 on the points table. A win on Saturday will take them to the top of the standings.
